Dear Parents / Guardians:
On behalf of the staff at Kendall-Harmon Elementary, I am happy to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year. After returning to in-person learning last school year, we are looking forward to having an amazing year of learning and growing with all of you this year! Everyone’s safety will continue to be our top priority and we encourage our families to self evaluate before sending their scholars to school, each day.
The 2022-2023 School Year will begin on Monday, August 1, 2022. This day will be a minimum day for Kendall students. Breakfast will be served from 8:20 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. The first bell rings at 8:45 a.m. and the tardy bell is at 8:50 a.m. Dismissal for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students is at 12:10 p.m. and students in first through fifth grade will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. The 1:15 pm dismissal time is only for the first day. All other Minimum Day dismissals will be at 1:00 p.m.
In addition to the curriculum, scholars will also receive some exciting materials during the first two weeks of school including:
● A new backpack for every single student who did not attend Summer School.
● School supplies to keep at home and use for homework including: 1 spiral notebook, 12 pencils, 4 pens, 12 colored pencils, 24 crayons, 2 erasers, 1 dry erase board, 4 dry erase markers, and 1 dry eraser.
● AVID Nicky Folder for School-Home Communication - please check daily.
● AVID Supplies to use in school including: AVID Agenda or Calendar, binder or folder, spiral notebook, pencils, pens, highlighters, erasers, pencil pouches, and crayons or colored pencils.
For the safety of our scholars, our school is a closed campus before, during, and after school hours. Scholars may begin arriving at school at 8:20 a.m. The staff will close the front gates at 8:50 a.m. All scholars arriving after 8:50 a.m. will need to enter the campus through the main office. Scholars are marked tardy if not in their classroom at or before the 8:50 a.m. bell. Parents/Guardians must bring a photo ID with them each time that they come to the front office. Entry through any one of our gates by visitors, volunteers, parents/guardians, non-personnel, etc. is not permitted.
Kindergarten update: Our Kindergarten program will be half day (8:50 a.m.—12:10 p.m.) for the first half of the school year (August 1, 2022 through December 15, 2022). During the first half, Kindergarten scholars can attend CAPS after school but have to be dropped off at 3:30 p.m. to participate. Kindergarten will be a full day program (8:50 a.m.—3:30 p.m.) during the second half of the school year (January 9, 2023 through June 1, 2023). Scholars will continue to be eligible to participate in CAPS for the second half of the year. More information will be shared during the parent orientation meeting.
As part of San Bernardino City Unified School District’s continuing effort to provide information to parents regarding your student’s progress in school, students and parents are able to view information using the district’s Aeries Parent and Student Portals. The Aeries Portals are a secure and private online resource that provide access to academic information about your child, including attendance, grades, and contact information.
Please update your information form online through your Parent Portal account during the open window from July 11, 2022 through September 30, 2022. You will not receive the usual beginning of the year packet, as this will be done online through your Parent Portal account. For this reason, it is critical that all families sign up for a Parent Portal account.
Aeries Account Set-up Steps.
- Access the district website at www.sbcusd.com
- Go to the Parent Resources heading and click on AERIES Parent/Student Portal
- Access resources on this page for specific instructions to establish an account.
Once an account has been established the account will remain active for your student each year. As additional students, from the same family, enroll in a district school, these students can be added to the established AERIES Parent Portal account.
Also, please download the Parent Square application so you can stay informed with District and Site information. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the office at 909-880-6626. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and support.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Silva and the Kendall-Harmon Staff
